A book too far?

I LOVE BOOKS...there, I said it! Books have always been a huge part of my life (soppy, I know) and it's not just the reading part that I enjoy. I love the process of picking out a book, I love physically owning that book, I just love everything about them! I am however beginning to wonder if my obsession has gone a step too far!
These three lovely boxes above together contain 300 postcards, each with a different penguin/puffin/ladybird book cover. You may ask why I chose to buy this, and I still ask myself that very question! They serve no real purpose as I rarely send postcards but recently I purchased a poster frame so I decided to frame some of my favourite (see first picture) and I actually really like it! I love books so why shouldn't I use them to decorate rooms? But I still have over 200 postcards to work with and hundreds of books filling up my very small room!

Do you have an all consuming obsession? Does anyone have any ideas for how to use books as room decoration?

Eh eh oh eh oh

And the walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love...you may assume that I have developed an obsession with Bastille (well I have but that is not the point of this post!)

So if you haven't guessed already, I have spent the week in Pompeii!! Which explains my week long absence from the blogging world! I am studying Classics at uni and I have studied Pompeii on and off for the past 5 and a half years but alas I had never made it there! But this week I changed all that and with my Pompeii class we made the journey over to Italy and all I can say is that it was amazing! On Saturday morning I awoke to my dreaded alarm at the ungodly hour of 3am and after a day of delays we finally made it to Pompeii! A couple of days spent amongst the ruins followed and while I arrived back in England ready to sleep for a week, it was one of the best things I have ever done!

I have a shed load of pictures on my computer if you would like me to do a post on what I saw? Have you been to Pompeii before?

I love my dog as much as I love you

Driving back from a week long holiday we had Cat Stevens "I love my dog" blaring out as we sang along, counting down the minutes 'till we would be reunited with our own lovable rogue, a white blonde Labradoodle named Frookie!
My family had never had a dog until I was 16 so to be honest I never really understood their appeal, yes they were cute and loving but I didn't understand how people could value them as you would a child, that was until we got our own.
This troublemaker is just so loving and friendly and I honestly can't imagine my life without him, he is always happy to see me and while I'm away at uni I miss the cuddles he is always so happy to give!
We treat him like a member of our family, when we sit down to watch tv, so does he. He goes everywhere with us and most holidays are planned such that he can come along too!

What are your views on dogs, do any of you have them?

Books, books and more books

So when I'm not slaving away at my laptop, churning out essays on the Roman Republic or Greek art and architecture, I can always be found with my nose in a book. At university I am studying classics which requires a lot of reading but for Christmas  I got a lot of fiction books and my New Years resolution was to read more books that I wanted to read and not just because they were on my course reading list.

*The Little Coffee Shop of Kabul (Deborah Robriguez)
*The Little Friend (Donna Tartt)
*The Shock of the Fall (Nathan Filer)
*The Goldfinch (Donna Tartt)
*The Pure Gold Baby (Margaret Drabble)

These are the ones currently on my list to read. Do you have any suggestions for any other good books out at the moment?
